Brad Pitt mentioned his children in his acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars

Which is noteworthy mainly because he didn’t mention his kids at the Golden Globes earlier this year.

Brad Pitt thanks his children in his Oscars 2020 acceptance speech

It’s no secret that 2019 was the year of Brad Pitt, and TBH, I did not complain one bit about it. He made headlines for giving us all hope that a possible Jennifer Aniston reunion could be in the cards, and on top of that, did you see him in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood??? He was total perfection.

So naturally, the Academy decided to award Brad for his stellar performance in the film— in which he starred alongside eternal bae, Leonardo DiCaprio—for his role as Cliff Booth. And when he took the stage to accept the Oscar, Brad actually mentioned his kids in his speech! Interesting, considering that he intentionally didn’t mention them in his Golden Globes speech in January.

Here’s what Brad said tonight:

This is incredible, really incredible, thank you to the Academy for this honor of honors. They told me I only had 45 seconds this year, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week. I’m thinking maybe Quentin does a movie about it. In the end the adults do the right thing.

This is really about Quentin Jerome Tarantino. You are original. You are one of a kind. The film industry would be a much drier place without you, and I love the ethos you gave Cliff booth: Look for the best in people, expect the worst, but look for the best.

Leo, I’ll ride on your coattails any day, man. The view’s great.

Then, Brad got a little sentimental, thanking his kids at the end of the speech, saying, ‘This is for my kids, who colour everything I do. I adore you.’

This is kind of a big deal considering that Brad chooses to ‘never mention them [his kids] publicly and wants it to remain that way’ because ‘he knows simply acknowledging his children in a speech could attract unwanted attention’ to them, a source told TMZ after the Golden Globes. The source also added that Brad ‘has never used his kids as a publicity tool…as those around him feel his ex Angelina Jolie has at times.’

So uh…not sure what inspired the change of heart, but it’s sweet for Brad to give them mention this time around!
