Billie Eilish Slams 'Nylon Germany' for Publishing a Naked Robot Cover of Her Without Consent

This is messed up.

  • An odd, naked robot version of Billie Eilish is on the cover of Nylon Germany‘s latest issue.
  • An important point to note: Billie had no idea this was happening.

When Billie Eilish graces a magazine cover, she does it with style. And, oh yeah, she tends to know it’s happening. Billie is on the cover of Nylon Germany‘s new issue, which is a massive surprise to her fans. But it’s also a surprise to Billie.

The magazine apparently didn’t contact the 17-year-old singer before putting a topless, robotic version of her on their cover, and Billie’s understandably not happy about that. When she saw the cover, she replied on the magazine’s Instagram directly, calling them out.

Here’s what Billie said:

‘what the fuck is this shit.
1. i was never approached by nylon about this piece whatsoever. i did not know it was happening nor did anyone on my team.
2. this is not even a real picture of me.
i had absolutely no creative input.
3. youre gonna make a picture of me shirtless?? thats not real?? at 17? and make it the cover???? even if the picture was supposed to look like some robot version of me… i did not consent in any way.
4. ANNNDDD YOU’RE GONNA REMOVE ALL MY FUCKIN HAIR?
booooooooooo to you’

Nylon Germany (not to be confused with Nylon in the US), responded by editing their Instagram caption. Notably, they still did not apologize.

‘To you, @billieeilish & your fans: For this cover, it was never our intention to create a look that is confusing or insulting to Billie Eilish. It was only ever our intention to honour Billies impact and her work by creating this avatar which is part of a cover series highlighting the power of digital prodigy artists. This avatar is a piece of 3D artwork created in dedication to her achievements and the positive effect she has had on millions around the globe – including us.’

Billie’s loyal fans are not feeling this, as one glance at Nylon Germany‘s comments will tell you. Here’s a good rule of thumb: Don’t be creepy and digitally alter 17-year-olds to appear naked on your cover and then not tell them! Not okay!!

As a palette cleanser, let’s turn our attention toward covers Billie did know about instead:
