It’s only days away until The Lion King is released in cinemas and Beyoncé’s new album The Lion King: The Gift will be available to stream, and the queen herself has preempted both of these releases with the music video of the song, Spirit.
Spirit is the first single from Bey’s Lion King inspired album, which she curated and produced and features a range of artists including Jay-Z, Pharell Williams, Childish Gambino, Moonchild Sanelly.
The video itself is a tribute to the African landscape and the scenes of Beyoncé and her dancers, and as well as her 7-year-old daughter Blue Ivy dancing in matching ensembles, are interwoven with scenes from the movie.
About the feel of the video, the singer said to Good Morning America, ‘The soundtrack is a love letter to Africa and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa and not just use some of the sounds and do my interpretation of it. I wanted to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa.’
