OMG, Nomzamo Mbatha awarded 60 bursaries to students in financial need

A hearty congratulations to everyone involved.

Lighthouse Foundation, an NGO started by former COSMO cover star and philanthropist, Nomzamo Mbatha, partnered up with Hollywood Bets to pledge R500 000 in funds for students in need for tertiary education. In a brunch hosted in Zimbali, Durban, the Coming to America 2 star hosted all the beneficiary winners at an intimate prize-giving ceremony.

With over 40 000 applicants, Nomzamo Mbatha and her team carefully chose the range of winners for the bursary. Her application process was simple: anyone with any financial constraints that are limiting their ability to better their lives through education should apply.

This is in a quest to help out those who are often in the ‘missing middle’, i.e. ‘those who are often refused bursaries and struggle to pursue their dreams because of the restrictions in place at the moment’, says Hollywood Bets. In a video posted to her social media, she highlighted how often some students are often forced to quit school because financial limitations occur unexpectedly.

Hollywood Bets came to the party offering an additional R500 000 to pledge for those who may not have gotten through the first round of applications. This opens up the opportunity for more students to apply.
