There are few things in life that give us more satisfaction than a fresh mani. But we can think of one thing that can – cool nail art! And we aren’t just talking about a sparkly accent nail, but more intricate designs that match your personal aesthetic. From Picasso-type abstract doodles to holiday-themed patterns, there are plenty of options, some of which require the expertise of a nail tech and some simple enough to DIY.
The latest trend, however, is one that should definitely NOT be tried at home – nail tattoos. Yes, you read that right.
Needle Your Nails
Conventional tattoos are strongly associated with pain. Not something anyone wants to experience when they go to the nail salon, TBH. But apparently, despite needles and professional tattooing equipment being involved, this process feels more like ‘soothing vibrations’ than sharp, painful jabs. This is because it needs to be applied in such a way that the needle only scratches the surface rather than penetrates through the nail, otherwise it will crack. Sounds risky, but the results are so fabulous that we would be willing to give them a go.
What makes nail tattoos better than a regular or gel manicure is their longevity. They stay on your nails and grow off as your nails do, which means no smudging, chipping or peeling off. They are also, despite what you might think, less damaging to the outside of the nail, which can start peeling or become brittle from conventional manicure products.
While we love everything about this trend, there is some bad news – they are currently only available in the USA. But we are pretty confident that it is only a matter of time before local tattoo artists start to provide this edgy service. So get your artistic inspiration ready!
