Red Velvet Cake, an American favourite, hit SA with a bang a few years back and continues to remain a favourite. And we don’t know about you, but nothing makes us drool more than the sight of a fat slice (or five) of it. We knew at first bite that this flavour wasn’t going to be a passing fad, but that it would become cemented in cake-eating culture. What we didn’t know, however, was that it would transcend the world of baked goods and become a new hair colour trend too. And the results? Simply delicious!
A Piece of Cake
Red-velvet hair colour is a modern take on auburn locks, and it is as rich and punchy as the cake itself. But rather than being as straightforward as dumping a load of maroon dye on your head, hair stylists have been creating custom shades to suit every individual. Most of the time, achieving this look consists of using a red-violet colour combo on light or pre-lightened hair, while selecting undertones that suit the individual. When done correctly, this yummy hair shade can suit all skin tones and can be just the pop of colour you need to stand out from the crowd.
Don’t believe us? We took to Instagram to find the evidence.
While there is nothing about this colour that screams ‘natural’, it manages to command attention without being quite as out-there as other hair colour trends, such as the unicorn and mermaid looks that were so popular last year.
Don’t know what to ask for when you go into the salon for a makeover? Requesting a rich, vibrant red (and taking along some photographic evidence) should get you the colour that is going to dominate the heads of cool kids everywhere for the next few months.
