Last night had people glued to their screens as they watched the stars shashaying down the red carpet and receiving awards at the annual Golden Globes ceremony. And while the event itself may officially be about rewarding them for their stellar work, we know that the fashion and beauty looks are just as important.
As usual, the celebs didn’t disappoint and served us all kinds of inspiration when it came to their hair and makeup. Here are eight of our favourites:
1 Kate Mara
New year brings about new trends, but fortunately the classic red lip isn’t going anywhere. Last night actress Kate Mara not only wore a sultry red lip with a subtle brown smokey eye, but she also sported a slicked-back topknot tied with a shimmery gold headband and she accessorised with some edgy ear bling. We approve.
2 Lili Reinhart
They say that the eyes are the window to the soul, so we are all about using makeup to really make them pop. Riverdale Lili Reinhart (or her glam squad) clearly agrees, as she wore a striking burnt red eyeshadow which really accentuated her baby blues. And to finish the look? Natural glossy lips and bold brows. Perfection!

3 Camilla Belle
It seems that this year was all about the eyes as actress Camilla Belle also decided to go bold. Her shade of choice? An electric teal with a subtle shimmer on the inner corners. This, paired with a dramatic side path, a nude lip and rosy cheeks, meant that she brought some eye-catching glamour to the red carpet.
4 Janelle Monae
No stranger to making big statements, Janelle Monae’s look for the Golden Globes was nothing short of spectacular. Not only was her Chanel outfit dreamy AF but her braids, which were tied into two buns and topped with a gold headpiece, brought this gold fantasy to life. That, and her warm, shimmery makeup and winged liner.
5 Lupita Nyong’o
We know that Lupita loves her blue makeup, and so she should, as it really compliments her enviable complexion. She wore lapis lazuli-blue liner as well as some blue mascara on the outer corners of her lashes and a classic red lip, keeping the rest of her beauty look natural. We’re stocking up on colourful mascara immediately!
6 Caitriona Balfe
This, people, is how you pull of cute and chic at the same time – we hope you’re taking notes! Model and actress Caitriona Balfe didn’t need much makeup as her hair was really the focal point of her look – a wavy bob separated with a middle path and clipped back using bejewelled slide-in grips. Obsessed!
7 Thandie Newton
When it comes to beauty and fashion, old trends inevitably make one (or more) comebacks. If Thandie Newton’s look last night was anything to go by, we can expect to see a return of the 70s in 2019 – big, statement hair and bold, glittery makeup. We don’t know about you, but we can’t wait to get groovy with our hair and makeup this year.
8 Lady Gaga
Another iconic look courtesy of Mother Monster. At this year’s event she decided to go full glam and wore an enormous dress while dripping in diamonds. But, true to form, there was a quirky edge to her look, which was her blue hair which perfectly matched her frock. Never before has being blue made us this happy.
