The 8 Best Hair and Makeup Looks from the 2019 Oscars

All our 2019 beauty goals on one red carpet

We waited patiently and it finally happened – the Oscars. Only the most prestigious event on the award-ceremony calendar. And while we do like seeing who takes home those coveted gold statues, if we’re being completely honest, we are more about the beauty looks than the wins.

With that being said, here are the eight looks from this year’s red carpet that have provided us with all the hair and makeup inspo we need to see us through the year.

1 Lady Gaga

While we might be used to seeing Gaga looking somewhat more outlandish, she nailed it when it came to red carpet glamour this weekend. Her subtle makeup and twirled updo had her channeling some serious Breakfast at Tiffany’s vibes.

2 Danai Gurira

Danai wasn’t walking dead’ at the Oscars (see what we did there?) but was instead giving us LIFE! Her long lashes, metallic lips and braids adorned with a gold head band made her look like royalty (even if it is just entertainment-industry royalty).

3 Charlize Theron

SA’s own homegrown talent, Charlize, was turning all the heads at this year’s event. It may have had something to do with her backless dress, but she was also rocking a sexy, bold red lip and a brunette bob with a slick side parting.

4 Emilia Clarke

This chick is nuts. She literally used store-bought boxed dye on her head in a DIY-dye job before hitting the red carpet. Luckily for her this bold move paid off because she arrived looking perfectly polished as well as a few shades darker.

5 Amandla Stenberg

This young star can rest easy knowing that her Oscars look was one of the best of the evening. Her textured, braided ‘do was as delicate as it was intricate, and paired with subtle winged liner and natural pink lips were worthy of an award.

6 Angela Bassett

One thing Ang knows how to do well – other than acting – is bringing the fierceness. And that’s exactly what she did at the 2019 Oscars, with the most eye-popping part being her mega-long ponytail. In other words, Ariana Grande might not own the pony anymore.

7 Laura Harrier

We know that blue makeup is trending, but how should we be wearing it? Look no further than Laura for the perfect example. Her baby blue eyeshadow has been touted as the best use of this colour at this year’s event – which is really a win in itself.

8 Ashley Graham

Ballerina buns are a surefire way to add some glam to your look. Ashley took it a step further, decorating hers with mini velvet bows. This was all her ensemble needed to add an element of playfulness to her formal AF outfit. We approve.
