The most anticipated NYE event has come and gone and it’s safe to say that an amazing time was had by all. Not only was the music flames, but when it came to style, the crowd really brought it. We got photographer Neo Baepi to capture some of the best looks spotted at the festival and here are 10 that had us shook for all the right reasons.
1. Ultra Violet Eyes
Ultra Violet has been named the Color of the Year by Pantone so we can expect to see more of it cropping up in our makeup palettes. This attendee has clearly got a head start.
2. Blonde Ambition
Sure, it might be a high-maintenance colour, but blonde is never out of style and is youthful, fresh and eye-catching. The colourful dots and soft-pink lips all come together to create a fun, youthful look.
3. Mellow Yellow
From lipstick to blush, yellow was getting some much-needed love in 2017 that we can only hope continues in the upcoming year. Because LOOK HOW GOOD IT LOOKS!
4. Dots for Days
The best way to describe the makeup at Afropunk 2017 is that it was a hybrid between minimal and extra. Even for those who didn’t apply makeup in the conventional way, it was used in other ways – like these gorgeous facial dots.
5. Modern Muse
Not only are ‘unconventional’ lip colours ALL the rage RN, but so is grey hair and perfectly imperfect, futuristic eyeliner. In other words, this attendee is slaying the beauty game.
6. Going Grey
What better way to draw attention to your lips than by wearing a trendy colour on them? This grey hue not only matched the weather on the first day but looked chic AF as well.
7. Perfect Paint
Think that makeup has to be used on designated parts of the face only? Think again. This attendee showed us how straying from convention can have the best results.
8. Short and Sweet
It’s no secret that the peroxided buzz cut was one of the most popular hairstyles of 2017. Here we can see why: not only is it practical but it looks edgy and cool, too.
9. True Colours
Think that the colourful hair trend is over? This attendee came to show us that it definitely isn’t. We’ll be embracing our inner mermaids and unicorns well into 2018.
10. Be Bold
From delicate dots to decorative braids to bold lipstick, this look epitomises everything we loved about the looks at this festival. The people of SA know how to slay!
