Bold '60s False Lashes Are Are Officially *In* and Trending

Time to flutter those falsies!

Remember Twiggy? While you probably weren’t alive during the height of her career, her beauty and style legacy lives on to this day.

And while we’re not sure if Mary Quant-style mini dresses and bright, clashing colours are going to be making a comeback this season, one trend synonymous with this iconic model is: bold false lashes. And we are *beyond* ready to get our flutter on!

Fabulous Falsies

One of the trademark beauty looks to come out of the 1960s were defined lashes. The eye makeup was often bold too, using flat, unblended colours and geometric shapes and lines to churn out some serious lewks. While mascara and fake eyelashes are still the business today, during the swinging sixties there was a real emphasis on the bottom lashes. These are normally short, fine and not that noticeable. This throwback trend is here to bring some boldness to these often neglected facial hairs.

What really brought bold bottom lashes back on to our radar was when they made an appearance at the Dior show during Fall 2019 Fashion Week. This makeup look was conceptualised and executed by the fashion giant’s own beauty creative and image director, Peter Philips. He claims the graphic eye look was inspired by 60s mods and Teddy Girls, whose style personified the post-war years.

Other makeup artists, such as the legendary Pat McGrath, have also jumped on the bold-lash bandwagon and showcased this look on their feeds.

As for the regular folks, they have also embraced this retro revival, and are taking to Instagram to show off their longer-than-life lashes.
