We are living in strange times. Many countries – SA included – are currently under lockdown to try and prevent the spread of COVID-19. This has led to a lot of people getting creative with their hair and trying things that they have never done before. This is either out of desperation – ‘these split ends have GOT to go’ – or bravery. Because unprecedented times call for bold beauty looks. And one of SA’s own, Nadia Jaftha, is influencing us all with her daring new ‘do.
A close shave for Nadia Jaftha
People are doing all sorts of cool-and-crazy things to their hair during quarantine. While some are less drastic, like DIY trims and experimenting with colour, others are much bolder, with buzz cuts being another increasingly-popular choice.

Fear is the one thing that has always held me back. If there’s one thing this whole experience we're going through has taught me, it's that there is no time for fear, and that we only have the present to try and overcome them. This was one of those fears for me, but it’s finally time for a fresh start. . I will also be donating my hair in aid of Cancer… Something that is quite close to my heart ❤️ The full video and process is on my YouTube channel.
Judging by the (almost) 64k likes this post has garnered so far, I think it’s safe to say that her followers approve (and may even proceed to do the same. Hey, she isn’t an influencer for nothing!).
In her caption, she explains that this was something that she had always feared, but she hasn’t only conquered it but is rocking the eff out of it. She also says that she donated her lobbed-off locks to a cancer initiative so it can be made into a wig. Here’s the video showing how it all went down:
