Kylie Jenner is Bringing this Psychedelic Print Back Through Her Nails

Groovy!

Nude shades and subtle hues are great and all, but there’s nothing quite like some colour to uplift your mood (and your look). Kylie Jenner – who isn’t afraid to experiment with her style – clearly knows this, because last week she took to Instagram to show off her latest manicure: Tie-dye nails.

This bold textile, which has been popular on-and-off since the hippie era, is one that reminds us of our childhood (or parents’ childhood) and gives us ALL the ’70s feels. It also happens to make for the perfect nail art, as is evident from Kylie’s pic:

Nails a la Nineties

Tie-dye has been around for decades, but it dominated the ’60s, ’70s and ’90s which means that we generally associate it with that era. And since the fashion from that period is all the rage, it was only a matter of time before people like Kylie (or at least her nail artist) started incorporating this print into their nail art. Now it’s here and ready to flood your Instagram feed, so we suggest getting on board!

What’s great about tie-dye is that there are many different finishes to this technique, from trippy, circular patterns to gentle gradients, so you have loads of options. Miss Jenner opted for soft pastel shades and blending, but you could go for more bolder designs and still be on trend. You also don’t need to go full tie-dye. If you want a more subtle look, you could limit the colour and shapes to your tips, or even one accent nail. Here are a few examples that have us inspired:

Here we have not just tie-dye, but some cool stamped-on white nail art over it that are giving off some serious boho vibes:

Here is an example of some talons that have kept the colour up top, and stayed neutral down below:

Here is a manicure that incorporates a few designs, and has tie-dye nails as an on-trend accent:

And here are a set of coffin nails that are similar to Kylie’s soft, gentle finish:

Don’t know which type to choose? Don’t worry, you’ve got at least a season to try ’em all.
