There’s no denying it: Kim Kardashian is a trendsetter. Love her or hate or, this reality star and beauty mogul has brought everything from big booties to contouring into the mainstream. Now, she is about to bring back one of the most controversial hair trends from the 90s/early-2000s, chunky highlights but, in true Kim style, has made them better.
Stars in Stripes
Chunky highlights were a stripey hair-colour trend that has its ‘roots’ (see what we did there?) in the 90s and lasted through to the early-2000s. Why? We don’t know. Some stars who were major fans of this look include the Olsen twins…
… and American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson.
Sure, people may have rated this look in 2002 but looking back, the general consensus was that this style should stay in that decade and not make a repeat appearance, ever again. Well, that WAS the consensus, until Kim K came along. Because for the promotional content for her new 90s-inspired KKW Beauty line, the Mattes Collection, she has undergone a hair transformation and is now rocking this polarising trend.
What made this trend so cringe-worthy when it first hit the scene was how unnatural it looked. Kim – never one to look a mess, hot or otherwise – is sporting a new-and-improved version, which was done by hairstylist Andrew Fitzsimons. Her brunette locks, which are considerably shorter RN, have lighter, chestnut brown streaks in them and while the highlights are still obvious, the shades pair well together, making the overall look a lot more polished. See for yourself:
Impressed? We never thought we’d say it, but us too! And considering how influential Kim Kardashian is, we won’t be surprised if this look makes a legitimate comeback.
