Hickeys are the Unexpected Beauty Trend from NYFW

It ‘sucks’ – get it?

New York Fashion Week is a time when new trends are born. Some of them make their way into the mainstream, while others don’t make it off the runway. The latest beauty fad to be spotted at this year’s event were fake hickeys, and it’s as weird as it sounds.

Hickeys, But Make it Fashion

A few days ago, Mexican designer Victor BarragΓ‘n sent a diverse cast of models down the runway to showcase his Spring Summer 2020 collection. The inspiration behind it was hedonistic club kids, who look as though they got *seriously lit* the night before. We’re talking dishevelled hair, slightly-smudged makeup and hickeys – yes, hickeys – on different parts of their bodies.

Just in case you were wondering if these models were sporting the real deal (hey, who knows what goes on backstage!), they aren’t actually real. Nope – they’ve been created with makeup (but you’re forgiven for doing a double-take. We all did.). The makeup artist behind these provocative looks is Marcelo Gutierrez, and you might want to remember his name because we have a feeling this isn’t going to be the last weird beauty trend he pioneers. The fact that he calls on his followers to make fake hickeys a trend is our proof.

We’ve got to hand it to the guy – this makeup is done so well that it genuinely looks like the model’s bae got carried away. At least it can be wiped off at the end of the show, and it definitely got the attention of the crowd.

Despite how edgy and daring these looks were, we’re not totally convinced that this is a trend that is going to be taking off anytime soon.
