As if getting acne on our faces isn’t bad enough, our bodies like to mess with us and we sometimes sprout zits further down. Pimples on your back and shoulders, affectionately known as ‘bacne’, is something we don’t talk about as often but it can still be just as annoying, especially when it’s summer and off-the-shoulder tops are trending. WHY, CRUEL WORLD???
If you’ve been dreading the warmer weather because you’ve been covering up a spotty secret, you can come out of hiding. Here’s how to deal with and get rid of ‘bacne’ for good.
Check Your Threads
One of the primary causes of ‘bacne’ are the clothes you wear. Synthetic materials such as polyester don’t allow skin to breathe. This means you sweat more and you don’t get enough fresh air. Hair follicles on your back then trap the sweat and bacteria which can lead to break-outs. One way to curb this is by wearing loose, airy clothing made from natural materials, such as cotton. You’d be a lot more comfortable, too.
Pick Your Products
The most effective way to combat acne, wherever it may be, is by using the right products. This means it’s time to check some labels. Ingredients that are known to help clear up break-outs are benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid, which help to control sebum production and dry out existing pimples.
If you’re looking for something more natural, look for products that contain tea tree, which has antibacterial, acne-busting properties.
After your skin is squeaky clean, follow up with a lotion that contains similar ingredients.
Some stubborn zits need individual attention, which is why an on-the-spot treatment can also come in handy.
