In January this year, NBA legend Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, tragically passed away in a helicopter crash. This left the world reeling and the tributes started pouring in. One of the sweetest ones yet was spotted on the fingertips of megastar Beyoncé at their memorial yesterday: she was sporting a custom manicure of the deceased’s names. So touching!
Beyoncé’s moving manicure
Last night more than 20 000 people gathered in and around the Staples Center in Los Angeles to celebrate the lives, and mourn the deaths, of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna, who died in a helicopter accident last month. Beyoncé was, like everyone, saddened by the news, and posted a picture of the dad and daughter on her Instagram feed:
Last night Queen Bey opened the memorial with moving renditions of ‘Halo’ and ‘XO’, which were expertly woven together and included a gospel choir. Before she started singing, she – a long-time friend of the Bryant family – said: ‘I’m here because I love Kobe, and this was one of his favorite songs. I want you to sing it so loud, they’ll hear your love.’
And as if her performance wasn’t touching enough, Beyoncé also paid tribute to Kobe and Gianna with her manicure. It was purple, which is one of the LA Lakers team colours, with ‘Kobe’ and ‘Gigi’ spelled out on her nails in gold lettering.
At the end of her performance, she kissed her hand and held it up skywards before saying ‘I love you’ to Kobe’s widow, Vanessa. May they rest in peace.
