14 Ballerina Nail Shapes and Designs to Copy

Get in on the coffin trend with these kick-ass ideas.

Picture, for a second, a ballerina’s shoes. No, not those flimsy ballet slipper flats. I’m talking about the elegant, structured pointe shoes with the tapered toe and a flat edge. If you’re like me, you lacked the grace and the dancer’s feet necessary to wear them. But ballerina nails? That’s something I can try.

Modelled after the silhouette of pointe shoes, ballerina nails (aka coffin nails) mimic that same graceful, elongated shape on your fingers. And when paired with a cool colour or design, there’s nothing prissy about them. See what I mean below.

Ombré French Mani

This is a French tip for someone who’s not quite ready to get back into the ’00s trend yet. It’s like the noncommittal French mani, ya know?

Faded Peach

A longer length really accentuates the ballerina shape as well as the ombré effect, so give it a try if you can put up with them (and by ‘put up with them,’ I mean learn a new way of opening everything).

Short Coffin

So you prefer your nails a little shorter. All good! The tapered shape still adds an elongated look to the fingers no matter the length, and a minimal design like this one looks good on all sizes too.

Gucci Prints

You could spend thousands on a designer bag…or you could spend less than a hundred on some logo nail art. Just sayin’.

Kira Kira Sparkle

These might look like little star cutouts, but they’re actually tiny silver stickers. Much easier to DIY than, you know, hole-punching your nail.

A Sliver of Sparkle

As far as nail art goes, sometimes it’s the tiniest details that make the biggest impact, like the itty-bitty line of glitter at just the tips of the nails.

Ombré Pastels

Maybe you’ve exhausted the cuticle-to-tip ombré, but have you tried the pinky-to-thumb gradient? You can fit way more colours this way and, thus, have more fun with the design.

11 Pink Jelly Nails

Sure, you’ve tried sheer polish, but have you tried sheer nails?! Of course, you’d have to go to a salon or buy some glue-ons to get this look, because, sadly, you can’t make your actual nails clear (can someone invent that though?).

12 Matte and Glossy

Crazy designs might not be your thing (fair), but a simple change in texture, like the glossy tips on these otherwise matte nails, add a little somethin’ extra.

13 Glittery Tips

If anyone tells you you’re too old to wear glitter, cut ’em off. You don’t need that negativity in your life, and you definitely don’t need anyone to dull your sparkle.
