The Funny Girls of ‘Black-ish’ Are Proud of the Natural-Hair Movement

Embrace your natural hair!

Our favourite funny girls from the hit comedy series Black-ish are currently featured in this month’s issue of Essence magazine, once again giving us another reason to love them by utilising the platform to encourage women to embrace their natural, chemical-free curls in an article titled ‘Naturally Yours’.

Tracee Ellis Ross has always loved depictions of natural hair on television series, as she once shared, ‘I think it’s huge that I’m wearing my natural hair texture on ABC in prime time. As Dr Rainbow Johnson on Black-ish, I think my hair is part of the reality of this woman’s life.’

Tracee goes on to acknowledge the notable shift in the standard of beauty represented in television today, highlighting, ‘there is a revolution happening where black women are owning their own beauty, despite the standard of beauty that in the past has not had space for it. [If] you hire me, you hire my hair and you hire my ass. It’s all coming with me.’

Yes, queen!
