Flawless skin is a unicorn of sorts – a mystical creature we all want but struggle to find. Let’s be real, perfection – especially when it comes to skincare – is pretty hard to accomplish. However, following these tips will bring you one step closer to finding – and keeping – your unicorn.
A good cleanse is essential. Cleaning your skin helps to get rid of all the excess dirt that builds up and clogs your pores. Different products work best for different skin types but we suggest you use a Clarisonic cleansing brush with your face cleanser. The cleansing brush is a hand-held, electronic brush that is used to clean skin. Trust us, it works so much better than your hands.
2. Protect Against Sun Damage
Living in (mostly) sunny South Africa does your skin no favours. Sun damage can cause dark spots (sun spots), wrinkles and, worst of all, skin cancer. We cannot stress enough how important it is to use sunscreen, even on days when there is seemingly no sun. Alternatively, you can use BB cream –a multifunctional miracle balm that acts as a sunblock, moisturiser, primer AND foundation. See, you have no excuses.
3. Do NOT Pick, Pop or Scratch
You should not pick your face, no matter how temping it is. We all tend to pick, pop and scratch pimples that appear on our face and this is a big mistake. A spot shouldn’t last longer than one week but if you pick your spot and create a wound, the scar that appears will last weeks, or even months. Rather, keep your skin clean and apply a spot treatment. We suggest Neutrogena Visibly Clear Rapid Clear Treatment.
Moisturiser is the key to beautiful, radiant skin. Even if you have oily skin, don’t skip this important step. Surprisingly, the skin produces more sebum (which is the oily substance that appears on the skin) when you don’t moisturise. Use a moisturiser that works for your skin type and then use a hydrating mist throughout the day to refresh skin. We suggest MAC Fix Spray as it hydrates skin and sets makeup (double win).
5. Eat Correctly
What you put into your body is then reflected on the outside. For healthy skin, you need to consume healthy fats, such as omega-three fats, and drink plenty of water. Omega-three fats are found in avocados and nuts. Yum!
