Negative space is the new mani trend this year, and we’re totally crushing on it! This sophisticated, stylish, and surprising versatile take on the basic manicure is, without a doubt, going to be the “it” mani style this summer, just watch!
For a basic negative space nail, you’ll need:
- Well-filed and shaped nails
- Opaque nail polish (I used black polish)
- Matte top coat polish (I used Sally Hansen’s)
- Base coat and a clear top coat
- Sticky tape (to create the blank space)…admit it, you also started singing T-Swifty.
Step 1: Apply one layer of base coat to each nail. Wait for your nails to dry, then apply black nail polish on each nail except the middle finger.
Step 2: The middle finger is now bare. Cut a small piece of sticky tape and apply it just below the manicure tip line – the sticky tape is just a guide; it’ll make sure that the polish line is neat and precise. Now paint the entire tip with black polish.
Step 3: Allow the polish to dry. Once dry, remove the tape from one side to the other.
Step 4: Now cut a second piece of tape. Place this piece just below your now black manicure tip, but make sure the the tape lies exactly at the centre of the nail so it leaves the bottom of your nail bare.
Step 5: Now, paint the bottom of your nail and allow the polish to dry completely. Once dry, peel off the tape and seal your nails with a clear top coat.
TIP: If you have any messy edges or have sticky tape residual stuck onto your nail, just carefully remove with a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover.
Suggestion: If you want, apply a matte top coat onto one nail or all your nails. And if you have time, do a negative space nail art on each nail. Just have fun with it!
