Smoky eyes are great when it comes to evening makeup. But we recently spotted Miranda Kerr at the 2016 Louis Vuitton Resort presentation (during the day), sporting subtle smoky eyes – and we wanted in. We’ve got a few tips and tricks to help you master your daytime smoky eyes.
Hint: all you need is eyeliner.
The simplest way to create smoky eyes is to whip out your eyeliner and smudge away.
Step one: Line your top and bottom lash line with a black pencil, we love L’Oréal Infallible Never Fail Eyeliner (R150) – it comes with its own smudge tip.
Step two: Using a fluffy brush, smudge tip or your finger (if you’re really in a rush), start to smudge the eyeliner until it fades away, up until your crease. Do the same underneath your lash line so the black almost fades to a grey colour. It should look like ‘yesterday’s makeup’.
Step three: Coat your lashes in black mascara, concentrating on the outer lashes.
Alternatively, you can swap the black for a brown pencil. This is the easiest way to do subtle smoky eyes if you’re not feeling confident enough to use black.
The key to this look is to create glowing, radiant skin. This will ensure that you look ladylike and not grungy.
Step one: Start with an illuminating primer – we like Estée Lauder Illuminating Perfecting Primer (R355).
Step two: Apply a sheer layer of foundation in the correct colour (you can test it on the side of your cheek to match the colour correctly) and conceal around the eyes.
Step three: Apply powder and a pink blusher to the apple of the cheeks – we love Bobbi Brown Brightening Brick (R650).
Yes, it really is that simple.
