Maturing and growing older doesn’t mean you eventually have to say goodbye to looking and feeling good – or distancing yourself from the more bolder and vibrant makeup looks you once adorned in your late teens. As you age, it’s important to wear makeup that suits your mature skin. We chatted to Head To Toe Make-Up and Hair Styling School makeup artist Aliki Zanolin, and got her expert advice on habits we can form now so our skin stays awesome at any age.
As you age, following a strict skincare routine becomes more important. As Zanolin says, ‘the better you take care of your skin, the less makeup you’ll need.’ Ensure your morning beauty regime includes exfoliating, toning and moisturising to give your skin a little hydration and less wrinkles in the long run.
Primer over moisturiser
Yes, moisturiser hydrates your skin but it won’t help blur those fine lines around your mouth or on your forehead once your apply your makeup.Zanolin recommends Optiphi’s primer, which will help create a smooth canvas for your makeup, giving you a more flawless appearance.
Picking a foundation that’s the right shade is crucial – it’s so easy to detect if your formula is one shade lighter or darker than your true skin tone. Zanolin suggests purchasing two different foundations – one for winter and one for summer – as our complexion tends to change over seasons.
It’s common knowledge that our lips lose volume as we age so the best way to make them look naturally fuller is by wearing lip gloss with a lip plumper, says Zanolin. Light, rosy shades are your friends as these won’t age you. Lipsticks? Just ensure you line your lips before you apply your lip colour as this will create a barrier around your lip line, preventing the lipstick from bleeding.
Light flushes of blush are best!
