Did you go to Rocking the Daisies?
If you didn’t, I’ve got a short story for you:
There was a big tent aptly named the ‘Daisy Den’ that in the heat and party chaos, looked like a mirage.
It was in fact real.
And all a girl had to do to get in was buy two Brutal Fruits at the door. Tough deal, right? *sarcasm*.
Inside, there were showers, makeup tables, hair styling stations, and all the free dry shampoo, hairspray and nail polish you could need. There were even COSMOs strewn all over the tables!
Suffice to say, it was glamping at its best!
What I was shocked to see though, was girls spraying their freshly done up faces with hairspray before leaving the tent to party in the summer heat.

Makeup Setting Spray is Not the Same as Hairspray
There are several key differences:
1. Aerosol (Water-Free) and Non-Aerosol
Hairsprays are generally water-free because moisture causes curls to drop.
Makeup-setting spray however, can contain water (it’s moisturising on the skin, in fact) and therefore doesn’t have to be in aerosol form.
2. The Polymers in Makeup Setting Spray is More Solid
Let’s talk about both product’s functions:
Hairspray is meant to be sprayed lightly over the hair and hair-holding polymers run finely over individual hairs and when two pieces meet, tiny polymer droplets dry to join or “weld” together to hold your hair in place. More hairspray can be added where you need more hold, depending on the style you’re going for.
Makeup-setting spray however, needs to be applied evenly over the face and has more solid polymers than hairsprays because if it was too fluid, your makeup would just run. The opposite of what you want.
3. You Don’t Want Your Makeup Setting Spray To Be ‘Scrunchy’
Though you might want that in a hairspray.
Makeup-setting sprays contain more softening ingredients, like Polyhydroxystearic Acid and Isononyl Isononanoate, because they’re meant to create a breathable, light film of product over the skin.
Bottom line? They’re not the same thing and we suggest you don’t use hairspray on your face. Try powder instead.
