Step AWAY from the facial scrub…
Over the years, we have all been led to believe that using a facial scrub to exfoliate is a crucial element in every skincare regimen. If you want glowing, blemish-free skin, then you have to scrub away to remove all the dead skin cells and impurities that are hanging out on your face. And I’ll be the first to admit it – a good scrub not only makes my skin feel as smooth as a baby’s bottom, but it also tricks me into thinking that I am doing some serious deep cleaning. Recently, a popular skincare brand got into major legal trouble when consumers claimed that its cult product, which had been on the market for years, was causing damage to their skin. This marked a turning point and had people asking: could exfoliating be damaging my skin?
I hate to break it to you, but using harsh facial scrubs that contain granules that are meant to clear your pores and rid your skin of dead cells is not good for your skin at all. This is because those little granules can actually cause micro tears in your skin which, while not always visible to the naked eye, can cause unnecessary wear and tear to your delicate facial skin over time. Uh oh!
The good news is that it isn’t too late to change your habits and, since the skin is really good at repairing itself, you can make changes to your skincare routine that will not only reverse the damage but make your skin even MORE flawless. While it is necessary to remove product build-up, dead skin cells and sebum from your skin, this can be done without the use of a harsh scrub. How, you ask? Rather than going for facial scrubs, look for enzyme-rich facial peels. These enzymes are effective not only at loosening and removing skin cells, but also brighten your complexion and heal the skin.
When you know better, you do better – and ‘I Don’t Want No Scrubs’ just became our new beauty theme song.
