Tech lovers! Instagram gurus! Wish your drunken Insta story could play for more than 24 hours? Your favourite app has heard your cries. Instagram is now giving you the option to archive your stories.
The new feature does two things. It allows you to keep your escapades either in Stories Archive – it automatically and privately saves all your stories – or in Stories Highlights – the option of storing the ones you want the world to see. Talk about a game-changer!
Today we’re introducing two new tools to help you hold on to your favorite moments from Instagram Stories and share them in new ways that help you express yourself. Stories Highlights is a new part of your profile where you can show more of who you are through stories you’ve shared. And to help you build highlights, your stories will now automatically save into a private Stories Archive so you can easily relive them. Now you can group stories into highlights and feature them on your profile. To create a highlight, tap the “New” circle, choose stories from your archive, select a cover and give it a name. Your highlight will appear as a circle on your profile that can be played as a stand-alone story. Moving forward, your stories will automatically save to your Stories Archive. To see yours, tap the archive icon on your profile, then tap on any story to watch it. From there, you can add it to your current story, share it as a post or add it to a highlight on your profile. Only you can see your archived stories, and you can turn off auto-archiving at any time in your profile settings. Now, instead of scrambling to save Insta Stories before they reach their 24-hour expiration date, they’re stored in neat categories for you to keep on returning to them … forever.
The app is rolling the new feature out and you should expect the notification when you log in.
This does mean that you can expect Instagram to look a little bit different from now on. If you enable Archives, your stories will be visible along with the rest of the content you save. Stories posted on your profile will give your profile a design update but it’s totally worth it.
This is pretty much a miracle for anyone including brands and tastemakers who want to make their stories available and accessible for more than a day, or if you lived your best life on an exotic holiday and want to keep the memories forever. It’s a win-win, if you ask us.
