We chatted to Grace about her life as a model.
Name: Grace Mahary
From: Toronto, Canada
Started modelling: Six years ago.
How it started: I was really more into my basketball and science, so I didn’t start modelling full time up until last year. But now I don’t regret it.
Places visited for shoots: Mainly the States, especially New York.
Favourite shoot location: Maldives was by far the hottest and coolest location ever! This was my first island location. It’s very beautiful and I’m very grateful to be here.
Hobbies and interests: I love travel and learning about local cultures. I also love learning languages – I want to learn every language on the planet!
Languages: English, French and Tigrinya – my family is from Eritrea.
How much travel is involved in modelling? In the past year, I’ve been home for a month and a half altogether.
Worst thing about modelling: I have a fear of losing my hair. After seven months of modelling in New York, anyone would lose their hair – and their mind!
Best thing about modelling: Travelling. Also, some of the girls get lovely little gifts to say thank you.
Advice for people who want to start modelling: Check in with yourself and be confident in who you are. There’s a lot of critique involved and a lot of models lose themselves. The worst thing you can do is compare yourself. Love who you are, go for the experience – the rest will come.
Favourite moment on the COSMO Swimwear shoot: Swimming with the whale shark tops everything. And seeing life underwater was the most amazing thing ever.
