Healthy living is a lifestyle choice but that’s not to say that it’s always that simple. We live a fast-paced life and finding time to exercise isn’t always number one on our list of priorities. Here are a few awesome and easy ways to squeeze in some workouts:
1) Walk everywhere
This is the simplest way to fit in some extra steps. If you commute using public transport, try getting off one stop earlier and walking the rest of the way to the office. If you drive to work, you could park further away from the office. If walking to and from the office is not an option, make a list of the errands you have to run this week, and guarantee at least one of them you could walk to.
2) Wake up 20 minutes earlier
This one we understand is a tough one. If there’s anything a #COSMOGirl loves, it’s sleep. However, we also want to make sure we’re getting the endorphins our bodies crave. Set your morning alarm for 20 minutes earlier. It may be tough at first but soon enough you’ll be waking up an hour earlier to get your day off to the right start. Still not convinced? Think about how long you spend on your phone after your alarm has gone off. Exactly.
3) Take the stairs
Think about how many places you visit during the week that have these free ‘elliptical’ machines? Tons, right? So next time you’re waiting for the elevator, stop and take the stairs instead. It’s an awesome aerobic workout and great for your lower body.
4) Weekend workouts
If your weekdays are just too busy, then make the weekends your thing! Reserve a bigger chunk of your time to make up for not exercising during the week, when you have more time and flexibility. We suggest that you break up your workout into medium-intensity workouts, across the weekend, instead of going full force and hurting yourself on the first day.
Exercise is such a great way to blow off steam and an even better way of ticking off all the least favourable things to do on your list. Jump on the treadmill and do a brisk, inclined walk while checking your mails, sorting out your to-do list and anything else you need to do. By the end of the workout you’ll be feeling healthy and leaving with a calm head.
6) Commercial breaks
Commercial breaks were once the most irritating, good-for-nothing time fillers that delayed your finding out the latest plot twist in Pretty Little Liars. But now, they’re a guaranteed five minutes of lunges, crunches and squats. So every time they switch to commercials, jump off the couch and squash out 50 sit-ups.
Remember, a healthy body and mind is a lifestyle. It’s something you can work on and dedicate a little bit of time and thought to every day. You’ve got to start somewhere and there’s no better time to start than now. For easy but effective workouts, head on over to our Body Health section!
