How to Solve the Painful Heels Dilemma When Pulling an All-Nighter

No need to pack flats!

Uuuurrrgggghhhh. The ultimate worst is when you just want to look sexy on a night out with bae or your squad, but then the torment of killer heels starts to kick in, and you opt out and settle for your average pair of flats.

New Year’s Eve is approaching fast and there’s absolutely no way you can allow yourself to settle for anything less than perfection – and that includes a sexy pair of heels.

Here are 10 amazing tips to make stilettos not just bearable but actually kinda comfy.

1 This may sound bizarre, but try using transparent roll-on deodorant on the areas that tend to chafe your feet. It will help your shoes glide on and make straps rub softly against your skin, rather than feeling like a cheese grater.

2 Buckles and straps will save you. There’s nothing worse than incredibly high shoes that don’t fit snugly – it will add to your discomfort. That extra bit of support will allow you to adjust the fit and have you feeling like Cinderella. (No need to leave at midnight.)

3 Everyone knows this but nobody seems to listen: wear in your shoes before the night! Moulding them to your feet and giving them a bit of a stretch will make a world of difference.

4 Go shopping in the evening. Your feet will be a little swollen from walking around all day, so if the shoes feel awful in the store, they will definitely feel worse when you’re (attempting) to dance the night away.

5 Please don’t walk. Strut! Why? You’re not in sneakers, you’re in heels; that means you need to use your core and stand up straight. Trust us, it makes a huge difference to how the shoes will feel on your feet. It’s time to act like you’re on the runway.

6 Heels require your best ballerina game – so strap your toes! By strapping your third and fourth toes together, you’ll support and protect a specific nerve in your foot that will save you from a great deal of pain.

7 Now it’s time for science. Stylists have suggested that by filling half a Ziploc bag with water, sealing it tightly, popping it inside your shoe and placing the shoe in the freezer overnight, you will actually expand it to create a more comfortable fit. #GetYourGeekOn

8 Before making the final buying decision, check the soles. If they’re not leather, there will be pain.

9 If you really struggle in stilettos, try a chunkier heel. Your shoe game will still look flawless.

10 Silicone gel inserts can be your best friend. Make sure they’re the ones designed specifically for heels, and place them under the balls of your feet.

And hey, if heels just don’t do it for you at all but you still want a touch of height, there is absolutely no shame in wearing a gorgeous pair of wedges.
