Congratulations to Sheila-Madge Bakker, Frances Buchner and Sabrina Linder, the three winners of the 2013 Foschini Fashion Design Awards!
The winners were announced amidst Baroque-esque celebrations with their families and friends, the Foschini team, fashion media, and specially selected Foschini customers. The event was held at Truth Coffee HQ on Buitenkant Street in Cape Town on Thursday 30 May.
The three winners were selected by the panel of judges based on their final entries: a cohesive collection of three ready-to-wear outfits inspired by the same time period as their exhibition outfit (Baroque or 1920’s) and styled with shoes and accessories purchased with their Foschini gift card. Not only did they all walk away with the coveted title, but they each received a R5000 Foschini gift card with which to spoil themselves, in addition to the main prize of an internship and sale of a capsule collection in selected Foschini stores.
Sheila-Madge, Frances and Sabrina will spend the first two weeks of their internship at TFG Design, where they will be mentored by TFG’s designers. They will be exposed to one of the best retail design environments in the country, as TFG Design Centre manufactures a wider range of product than any other supplier in the country.
Here, they will create their capsule collection based on the brief given to them, drawing from their exposure to the various design disciplines at the Centre. The three winners will then spend a week at Foschini head office with the Marketing and Merchandising departments, allowing them further insight into the world of retail and possible future career options.
This will all be completed during their June/July holidays, with their final garments being sold in Foschini Canal Walk, Gateway and Eastgate in October this year.
Follow their ups and downs as they take on the world of fashion retail at www.foschini.co.za/fashion-design-awards where we’ll post regular updates from the designers on their experience, challenges and milestones achieved.
