Have you heard of the Pantone colour of the year? Maybe you’ve seen the term being thrown around here and there. Greenery is here and it’s fresh, it’s optimistic, and its going to be all over Summer 2017.
But did you know, that to determine the colour of the year, Pantone conducts a global trend analysis study? From politics to design, everything from arts to culture plays a part in the selection process. From the impact of fast fashion to climate change, we all know that the environment needs our attention, and quickly. So, with this in mind, Pantone selected a tone that signals harmony and growth.
In fashion terms, the hue has been spotted all over the runways. Design favorites like Kenzo and Gucci went for full-on outfits made up of dazzling shades of emerald. On the street style front however, it came through as an accent colour – think solid green ankle boots and statement handbags.
The Pantone colour of the year isn’t just about spotting the years chosen hue everywhere. (Although once you start noticing it, it becomes impossible to miss.) It’s also meant to sum up the mood of the year.
Green symbolizes outdoors, and fresh energy, which ties in with one of 2017’s biggest trends: athleisure. Sports-inspired clothing and healthy living have become hugely popular, with more and more people opting to head outside.
The best way to wear green this summer? A pair of tassled sandals with green accents take top prize. But if you’re really feeling the optimistic mood of 2017? Go full-on green!
