These days there seems to be so many myths and contradictory theories about our health, it can be difficult to work out what's fact and what's, well, hysteria. We investigate five concerns.

Do Nail-Salon Pedicures Give You Foot Fungus?	Sometimes. 'The cheaper nail salons often don't sterilise equipment from client to client, so cross-contamination can occur,' says podiatrist Kate McArthur. 'When they buff your nails, fungal bacteria can get lodged in the emery board, which is then transmitted to the next person. Nail polish can also harbour bacteria. Reduce the risk by bringing your own emery board and polish, and by ensuring the pedicurist changes her equipment.'
