#COSMOTries 5 Edge-Control Products for Kinky 4C Hair

Battle of the edge-control formulas!

Whether you’re embracing your natural hair or wearing a protective style, having smooth edges is always key. For many of us it can be a struggle to find the perfect edge-control product that won’t damage kinks and coils.

This is why I’ve taken one for the natural-hair team and tried and tested some of the most popular edge-control products on the market. I was rather impressed by all the products, considering the fact that my hair is so curly, but read on to find out my verdict on these edge-control products.

Dr Miracle’s Style Edge Holding Gel (R59,99)

Pros: This edge-control product works best on softer hair, but it still also gets the job done on thick 4c hair.

Cons: You’ll have to use a scarf to completely lay down the edges, because the formula isn’t thick and waxy but more lightweight.

ORS Olive Oil Edge Control Hair Gel (R69,95)

Pros: This product doesn’t contain alcohol and is super-moisturising on the hair. The waxy texture makes it great for keeping down stubborn 4c hair.

Cons: If you wear the product daily it can cause a slight build-up, and it isn’t long-lasting on a really humid day.

Design Essentials Natural Honey & Shea Edge Tamer (R180)

Pros: This product is great to wear all day because of its glue-like gel formula, which ensures that your edges are held down without budging.

Cons: It can be quite difficult to wash out the product at the end of the day because of its water-based consistency.

Palmer’s Olive Oil Formula Super Control Gel For Edges (R88,95)

Pros: This is great to use every day and has a light hold. Plus, the castor oil conditions your baby hair and promotes hair growth.

Cons: It doesn’t really have a long-lasting hold like the rest of the edge-control products.

Cantu Shea Butter Edge Stay Gel (available soon at selected Clicks and Dis-Chem stores)

Pros: The hold that this edge-control product provides is absolutely insane! It lasts the whole day without drying out the hair, leaving it super-moisturised. Your curly edges really won’t move an inch.

Cons: It comes in a small container so the product won’t last you a long time if you’re wanting to use it for everyday use.
