Social networking and online application forms have certainly made things easier career-wise. But, if not managed and dealt with in the right way, technology has the potential to pose a threat to your career. Anna Martyn, career coach and managing director of Careers By Design, gives tips on how to make aspects of the fast-paced digital age work for you in the office.

#1 PROTOCOL, PROTOCOL, PROTOCOL	To avoid being scammed by phoney job opportunities, always be cautious, says Martyn. ‘If it is too good to be true, it often is – nobody is ever going to give you something for nothing.’ Be on the lookout for offers of employment without interviews and if you receive an e-mail offering you money, don’t trust it for a second, she says. ‘Always check your facts,’ she advises. Look at the e-mail addresses and do a background check on the companies who have sent them to you, she says. ‘Delete any dodgy e-mails and get on with your work in the real world.’
