'By making use of free advertising websites such as Vottle and Gumtree, I've found that my business has improved. I've also added a forum to my website to encourage my clients to create a personal profile and interact with each other. Social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook help too, of course. It literally takes minutes to create a page for your business. Invite all your friends and watch your contact list boom from there.'

How to make the web work for you:
'You don't need to spend a fortune to get your business's name out there. There are fantastic companies out there who offer affordable packages to entrepreneurs. For example, HostCow is a fairly new online company and it only costs R39 per month for customised domain name and email address.

'If you are going to establish an online presence such as a website with a shopping cart facility, it is very important to maintain excellent customer service levels. If you promise delivery of a product within three to four working days, make sure it's on your client's doorstep by day two.'
