The fire dancers really warmed things up as behind-the-scenes pictures and videos of the COSMO Swimwear shoot were shown, with cover girl Melinda Bam taking centre stage as the end of her reign as Miss South Africa draws near. Guests danced the night away, ending off the perfect party to welcome summer.

Jo'burg's jet-setters were out in stylish splendour at the launch of COSMO's 2012 Sexiest SA Men Calendar, which took place at Movida in Rivonia. Guests shared the dance floor with celebs, TV crews and paparazzi, while the hottest local men showed off their chiselled bodies on stage.

5FM's Poppy Ntshongwana shone as the MC, and introduced all the sexy contestants. After counting the votes, first prize went to singer Bobby van Jaarsveld. COSMO's editor Sbu Mpungose presented Bobby with a cheque for R10 000 - and then declared the party open!

While guests sipped on Brutal Fruit and mingled with the finalists, one of South Africa's hottest acts, Evolver One, entertained on stage. And as the night rolled on, partygoers were treated to a banging DJ set from Poppy.

During the fashion show, models (with hair courtesy of John Frieda) wowed the crowd in swimwear by Roxy, Edgars and Mr Price. And every girl was tweeting about the drummers from 1st Project, who kept us captivated throughout. Afterwards DJ Sox kept the party rocking until the early hours – a sizzling end to a perfect Cape Town evening.

]]> Thu, 15 Dec 2011 12:00 +0200 COSMO Girls Kick Butt! http://www.cosmopolitan.co.za//CosmoWorld/Events/cosmo-girls-kick-butt KICK BUTT in all walks of life, especially when it comes to protecting themselves, and that is exactly what they learned to do at the COSMO Kicks Butt Self Defence Workshops hosted at Planet Fitness Mega Club in JHB and Planet Fitness Plattekloof in CPT.

Our self-defence guru, Sanette Smit is a seventh-dan black belt in karate and the highest graded woman in Africa, not to mention one of the highest graded women in the world. Starting the day with an informative lecture, Sanette gave the girls step-by-step instructions on how to protect themselves, most important of all being, how to notice a potential threat before a situation gets worse. She explained how to spot an attacker, talked about the types of attackers you get and how COSMO girls can get themselves out of dangerous situations.


Girls were then treated to an energising lunch, after which they got to practice the self defence moves themselves. Performing standing, punching and floor routines, everyone learned moves all attackers should be afraid of.

Glacéau Vitamin Water kept the girls refreshed during the day and Original Cocktails served yummy drinks as everyone relaxed after a fun-filled workout.
