Winter Greens

Our parents are right – eating more fruit and vegetables will help to keep you healthy and winter-bug free. Give these recipes that contain flu-fighting ingredients a try.

Winter Green #1: Pomegranates Kiwi fruit has a high vitamin C content, which helps to build you immune system, says nutritional therapist, Andrea Jenkins.

‘Known as one of the world’s most nutritious fruits,’ aggress Creed, ‘Kiwi fruit is particularly high in vitamin C with excellent levels of potassium and fibre.’ The chlorophyll present in the green colour of this fruit is an exceptional antioxidant on its own, which are instrumental in fighting viruses and germs. Kiwis also contain valuable phytochemicals and a plant enzyme called actinidin, both of which help to combat illness and make you feel better, faster, Creed adds.

KIWI GELATO

Ingredients
4 golden or green kiwifruit, peeled
3/4 cup milk
1 tablespoon agave nectar (or simple syrup)

Directions
1. Place all ingredients in a blender.
2. Pulse until smooth.
3. Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn for about 15 minutes, or until frozen and creamy.
4. Serve as is, or freeze until more solid.
