HOW TO FIND YOUR FACE SHAPE
Stand in front of a well-lit mirror. Slick your hair back into a tight ponytail so you have no hair on, or over, your face. Look at how the outline of your face and the size and shape of your forehead compare to your cheeks and chin. Now, using a bar of soap, trace the outline of your face directly onto the mirror. Stand back and analyse the outline you created to exactly determine your true face shape.
Oval
You’re oval if the length of your face is equal to one-and-a-quarter times the width.
Round
You’re round if your face is about as wide as it is long.
Heart
You’re heart-shaped if you are narrow at the jaw line, and wide at the cheekbones and/or forehead.
Square
You’re square if your face is as wide as it is long, and you have a strong jaw and hairline.

Dos
Soften your face by playing down your angular jaw. Opt for a cut with texture, curls or choppy ends. Long styles with layers that start at the jaw line are perfect, as is a wispy fringe. Waves and curls are key in achieving a soft balance to your strong face shape.
Don’ts
Centre parts, chin-length bobs, blunt fringes, and long, dead-straight hair will all make your face look even more square. Create roundness by using volume-boosting products at the roots. |
